Climate Change and Environment
At Emaar, we are committed to managing our environmental footprint responsibly and addressing the risks and challenges associated with climate change. As climate change presents increasing risks to communities, economies, and the built environment, we recognise our responsibility to take decisive action and contribute meaningfully to national and global climate goals.
Our Climate Change and Environmental Policy provides a unified framework that guides all Emaar business units in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural resources, and integrating environmental and climate considerations into every stage of planning, development, and operations. This includes embedding climate risk management within strategic decision‑making, enterprise risk management processes, and resilience measures. By prioritising energy efficiency, renewable energy, and low‑carbon solutions, we aim to mitigate our environmental impact while strengthening the resilience of our assets and communities in a changing climate.
Through this policy, Emaar strengthens its commitment to regulatory compliance, transparent reporting, and continuous improvement, ensuring that sustainability remains central to our long-term value creation. We are dedicated to advancing a low carbon, resource efficient future while supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and contributing to global efforts to protect the environment for generations to come.
OUR NET ZERO JOURNEY
As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, the UAE has set national climate goals, including the Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets. As a major real estate developer, we recognise the role we play in supporting these objectives, and we measure our greenhouse gas emissions across key markets to establish consistent and reliable data, forming the foundation for a structured and practical transition. Guided by national climate objectives and aligned with our Group ESG Strategy, we have built on this foundation to develop a decarbonisation strategy that outlines science‑based pathways supported by short, medium, and long‑term milestones. The approach considers operational context, future growth, regulatory developments, and cost‑effectiveness of potential initiatives. Our roadmap covers our operational emissions, and is supported by wider national and regional progress, including power‑grid decarbonisation and advancements in clean technology.
Our decarbonisation strategy includes a range of practical measures across the three timeframes, from transitioning to refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP), enhancing energy efficiency through smart building retrofits, to expanding the use of renewable energy and electrifying our vehicle fleet where feasible. Through this phased and data‑driven approach, Emaar aims to support national climate goals while strengthening operational resilience and enabling a steady transition toward lower‑carbon development and operations.
